Spring it on!

It’s still a bit cold outside so its a great time to heat the oven and enjoy a glass from Pelee Island Winery.

Broiled duck breast & kale salad will have you dreaming of warmer days with Singing Moon Pinot Blanc or Alvar Cabernet Sauvignon!

Mediterranean Kale Salad

Marinating the kale helps soften it while adding flavour. Use a vegetable peeler to shave the cheese for this colourful salad.

Broiled Duck Breast

Just cross the boneless duck breast , bread and broil.

2012 Singing Moon Pinot Blanc

September brings us the Harvest Moon, sometimes referred to as the Wine Moon or the Singing Moon. This is the time of the year when the grape harvest is in full swing and we get to start the exciting process of wine making all over again.

This might sound crazy, but there are those who believe that a wine can taste very different depending on whether or not it is sampled on a so-called “fruit” day or a “root” day – those days in the lunar calendar when water and saps rise or fall. We’ll let you be the judge.

For us, this Pinot Blanc tastes good no matter when or where. A fresh, crisp wine with apple, citrus fruit, and floral characteristics. Elegant and Refreshing!

2011 Alvar Cabernet Sauvignon – VQA

GRAPE: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

LCBO# 214957

Alvars comprise a small percentage of the Earth’s ecosystems by land extent; although some 120 exist in the Great Lakes region, they comprise only 0.2% of the land area there. They provide a natural habitat for many rare birds, butterflies, plants and trees. The hop tree is one of them. A rare tree found in such Alvars along the shores of Lake Erie. Cabernet Sauvignon is often referred to as the “King of Red Wine Grapes”.

This wine is full-bodied characterized by plum, cherry, blackberry, vanilla and tobacco flavours.

Try with red meats, heartier tomato- based pasta’s, lamb, strong-flavoured cheese and dark chocolates.
